Located on the island of Diego Garcia in the British Indian Ocean Territory, the Diego Garcia Yacht Club
encourages all visitors to the island to come sailing in the lagoon. Located close to the MWR Marina, a short distance outside the Downtown
area, the Yacht Club is a frequent haunt for members and visitors alike.
The Marina offers dinghy, catamaran and yacht sailing for
qualified sailors. |

All are welcome to join the DG Yacht Club for a one-time fee

The Diego Garcia Yacht Club (DGYC) was established in May 1979 by a group of yachting enthusiasts for the
mutual benefit of all island residents and transient personnel who were interested in
sailing and windsurfing. Since its inception, the club has flourished and now has
over 10,000 lifetime members worldwide. |
|
|
|
The DGYC is affiliated with the Royal Yachting Association
(RYA) and the United States Naval Sailing Association (USNSA). The DGYC is a special interest group under Morale, Welfare and
Recreation (MWR). We provide a facility and an environment of good fellowship for
active Sailors and Windsurfers, as well as a social center for our members and their
guests. |

Our club is open 12 months of the year. The Yacht Club sponsors and organizes various regattas, such as the
Chagos Challenge and social events, including quarterly BBQs and acoustic band
performances. The DGYC also has its own line of clothing and leisure items that are
available through the MWR Marina. |

|
The goals of the Yacht Club are to: |

Encourage all aspects of recreational and competitive sailing. |
|
|
|
|
|
Promote the importance of seamanship, piloting, navigation and
water safety. |
|
|
|
|
|
Organize opportunities for active members and interested
personnel to receive instruction, information and advice on various aspects of boating. |
|
|
|
|
|
Assist the MWR Marina with organizing opportunities for active
members and interested personnel to take part in all forms of boating and windsurfing,
including cruising and racing/competition. |
|
|
|
|
|
Encourage and support liaisons between the active members of
DGYC, military personnel and civilian yachting associations. |
|
|
|
|
|
Encourage and assist the Commanding Officer, U.S. Navy Support
Facility Diego Garcia and the British Representative of Diego Garcia, BIOT in the
promotion of boating, sailing and windsurfing as an important part of the MWR Program. |
|
|
|
|
|

an expert at Sailing and Windsurfing, or merely looking for social interaction, the DGYC
is the place for you.
